In this country we produce 20 times more plastic today than 50 years ago and use approximately five million tonnes every year, a quarter of which is recycled. Many of our cleaning products are imported

Plastic often has a very short life span and is simply discarded after use (think plastic bags!) but almost all plastic is recyclable typically for a maximum of six times.  Recycling plastic is good for the environment because it:

1. Conserves our precious non-renewable fossil fuels (eg. oil)
2. Reduces energy consumption
3. Reduces the amount of waste going to landfill (plastic takes over 400 years to break down)
4. Reduces carbon dioxide emissions
