Mulled Wine Recipe

Sensationally spicy!

Greet your friends with a glass of hot mulled wine to set the scene for a perfect winter party.

It's not surprising that there are many versions of mulled wine around the world. This wonderful traditional recipe will fill your home with the fragrance of the season, creating a warm ambience to banish the cold.



Serves 10-12

1 bottle red wine
1 bottle dry white wine
Half bottle of Marc or Brandy
White sugar to taste
2 sticks cinnamon
6 whole cloves
1/8 tsp. allspice
1/8 tsp. mace
2 oranges
1 lemon

Method

  1. Pour wine into a large saucepan and begin gentle heating. As it begins to warm, add sugar and spices. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Add Marc (or brandy). Heat thoroughly but do not allow to boil.
  2. Add thinly sliced lemon and orange and allow mix to steep for about 1 hour over very low heat. Add more sugar during this time if desired, but do it slowly and ensure it dissolves thoroughly.
  3. Frequent samples are usually required during this time for the sake of quality control.
  4. Serve hot and garnish with fresh orange slices. A stick cinnamon could also be used.
