Artist Andre Zimmerlin
Inspired by the intensity of the light in Brazil
Andre Zimmerlin was born in France in 1954. He began his career as an artist in Alsace, where he painted watercolours, influenced by the gentle colours of his environment.
When he was in his forties, Andre moved to Brazil. Here he found himself surrounded by an explosion of colour - abundant plants, exotic birds and trees not found elsewhere in the world. Excited by such raw beauty he found that only by using oils and acrylics could he capture the intensity of light and colour.
He began to experiment and the results were astounding.
Capturing the vibrancy of the natural world
Although he produces watercolours for his paintings of historical places, Andre's main passion is to use oils and acrylics to capture the vibrancy of the world around him.
In the early days Andre would not have dared to use strong colours; but with maturity he sees no reason to hold back. His style is bold and beautiful, achieved by applying thick layers of paint and strong colour to represent the beauty of Brazil and France.
Andre's work is exhibited mainly in Sao Paulo and Curitiba. He has achieved recognition with architects as his striking work complements the country's contemporary architecture.
