Michele Brandligt's story: Here we go again with those all too familiar words. It doesn’t matter how it is phrased, redundancy is redundancy. This was the seventh time that I had been made redundant during my working career of 30 odd years.
The last time I heard these words was in July 2010. I had given 100% to that company. Being left with 0% in return is not what I call a fair exchange.
But this was a wakeup call. Because at that moment I decided enough was enough. I did not want to work for anyone else ever again. What I needed was peace of mind and more importantly to find something that I could be in control of, especially since being over 50 years old is apparently considered ‘past it’.
I began to consider working for myself and setting up a small business. Various ideas occurred to me but I was daunted about setting off on a path I knew nothing about. Also, I wanted to spend my time doing something I enjoyed and believed in. Then, one day, I came across an advertisement looking for people to work from home in the health and wellbeing industry in a self-employed capacity. What appealed to me most was that it offered on-going training and support. Excellent, I thought, it would mean that I could work for myself but would not be by myself.
I looked into the company behind the ad, Forever Living Products, and discovered that it was cash rich and debt free. 'The icing on the cake', I thought. This meant that I would not have to feel the fear of being made redundant ever again. Such peace of mind is a precious feeling - a breath of fresh air.
What's more, Forever Living Products has been awarded the Gold and Champion status by Investors in People. To me this was an extra tick to my list of requirements from a company.
After a considered long and hard look, I took the plunge. Joining Forever Living Products was a big decision and one that I have certainly not regretted making. The only regret is that I wish I had been introduced to this fantastic opportunity years ago.
The business is extremely flexible. I can put in the hours that suit me and provide me with a work-life balance. For example, I'm able to spend more time on my outdoor pursuits like clay pigeon shooting or golf, without worrying if I have taken too much time off. I am no fool, hard work is involved but this is nothing compared to the truly great rewards I can look forward to. One of the rewards is that this is FUN. Being over 50 now seems insignificant as I feel rejuvenated. I feel that I am worth more than what redundancy had made me feel. That extra spring in my step is not just due to the products that I am using.
With the training provided and support from my mentor, I started working on creating a solid customer base which is now giving me a healthy, regular, retail profit. Since putting that in place, I have been able to dedicate more time and effort on creating and mentoring my own team. The personal development I have acquired has given me the confidence to do so. I rapidly realised that I can look forward to a guaranteed pension, a retirement without worries, and an income instead of wages and to being financial independent.
The world is my oyster and this time . . . No One Can Take This Away From Me!
