For the green fingered amongst us, nothing beats a spring trip to Cornwall’s spectacular and world-famous early flowering gardens. The mild, sub-tropical Cornish climate means that spring arrives early - the first magnolia springs into flower as early as February - and it is the perfect place to put the long winter days behind us.
The Nare Hotel is Cornwall’s original and highest rated Country House hotel. Located on the scenic Roseland Peninsular it is a beautiful place to stay. The Nare heralds the start of spring by offering four-day Spring Garden Breaks until end of May so you can enjoy camellias, azaleas, magnolias and rhododendrons as they come into flower.
This Cornish hotel is close to many famous gardens, and set in stunning sub-tropical gardens of its own, The Nare offers guests the chance to totally relax in luxury, overlooking panoramic views of the sea.
The Nare Spring Garden Breaks are designed to enable visitors to see the best of Cornwall’s gardens, with visits to three legendary gardens of choice over the course of four days. By special arrangement The Nare is able to arrange personal guided tours to some of Cornwall's privately owned botanical gardens, including Tregothnan, Trewithen and Caerhays, as well as public gardens such as the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Trebah and The Eden Project.
The flowering of the first magnolia at Caerhays, famed for its National Collection of Magnolias, signifies the start of spring in Cornwall, and the Nare can arrange bespoke tours to see this beautiful sight. “The flowering of our champion Magnolia Campbellii tree happens around 10th – 20th March each year, and is an occasion and stunning sight that mustn’t be missed. It is the largest specimen of its kind in the country, and once in flower we know we will then see shoots and buds springing open throughout the rest of the county – and we celebrate the arrival of Spring” says Charles Williams, owner of Caerhays Castle Gardens and Burncoose Nurseries, and Chairman of Great Gardens of Cornwall.
The Nare has long been famed for its own beautiful, coastal gardens. Magnificent palms and agapanthus flourish, fresh flowers are replaced daily and the climate even allows daffodils to be on The Nare dining tables for Christmas. The Ashworth Family, the owners of the Nare Hotel, are so confident of the sub-tropical climate that should snow settle on The Nare terrace for more than 24 hours, they even offer one night of a four night stay free.
So mark the arrival of spring with a trip to the ‘best in the west’ – a Spring Garden Break at Cornwall’s original country house luxury hotel.
The Nare Hotel was the first hotel to bring ‘luxury’ to Cornwall. Twenty-one years since it was acquired and relaunched by Bettye Gray, the hotel today is the county’s only four red-star hotel and continues to offer the same unparalleled, comfortable service that built its reputation and outshines the rest. Leading the way as the county’s luxury country house hotel, The Nare ensures guests’ every comfort is taken care of.
The Nare, an independent hotel run and owned by the Ashworth’s, recently celebrated the family’s 100-year involvement in tourism in Cornwall. As part of the celebration, the Ashworths worked with local daffodil experts at Fentongollen Farm to cultivate the ‘Nare Celebration’ daffodil, a unique variety that has been propagated specifically to flower towards the end of the season giving the yellow colour that gardeners crave at that time of the year.
Spring Garden Breaks include four nights' accommodation, dinner, breakfast, early morning tea, afternoon cream tea and run from February to May every year (excluding Easter). Included are tickets to three gardens of your choice. If there are particular gardens of interest, visitors should discuss in advance with reception when making the booking.
