Cape Town is becoming one of the most popular destinations for global visitors in South Africa, largely due to its cosmopolitan city centre. However Cape Town stands out from the usual tourist cities because of the spectacular background scenery provided by Table Mountain and the surrounding white beaches and turquoise ocean views.
Together with the surrounding winelands and stunning flora and fauna the Cape should be at the top of everyone’s holiday wish list.
Our seven night Cape package takes in the wonders of Cape Town city, as well as visiting Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated), Table Mountain, the magnificent Southern Right whale in their natural habitat and concludes with a few days exploring the world famous wine routes of the Cape – this really is a trip to be remembered forever. Oh, and there is the option of cage diving with great white sharks for the truly adventurous – this really is a wonderful experience for the bold hearted!
You will be picked up from Cape Town airport upon your arrival and taken to the local hotel that will be your home for the first night.
The evening meal with allow you to meet your fellow travellers, or if you have just been on the main two week package you can recount your recent adventures with each other.
Today is all about exploring Cape Town as a world famous city. After a relaxed breakfast we will travel to the centre of Cape Town, and from the Victoria and Albert Waterfront we will take the short cruise to Robben Island. For the next few hours we will enjoy an awe inspiring tour of the famous prison that kept Nelson Mandela behind bars for 27 years, gathering a rare insight into how apartheid operated and suppressed political prisoners.
After lunch you have the afternoon to explore Cape Town at your leisure, and with so many shops, restaurants and costal walkways you will be hard pushed to see everything in such a short space of time.
We will finish off a lovely day with dinner at one of the best restaurants on the waterfront, before our short transfer to our accommodation for the night in Camps Bay.
After having seen Table Mountain in all its glory from the bottom for the last couple of days it is now time to ascend this beautiful peak. The choice is yours as to whether you want to climb Table Mountain by one of the many beautiful hiking trails of if you want to enjoy the cable car to the top, but the view from the summit is spectacular however you get there.
The rest of the day will be slightly more relaxed and involve driving down the scenic coastal road from Table Mountain to Cape Point, stopping for all the best panoramic views along the way.
Today we will travel east along the gorgeous coastal roads until we reach the quaint town of Hermanus, famous for its annual Whale Watching Festival. In season Hermanus is the best place to see the Southern Right whales with their young calves, and we will spend the afternoon searching for these wonderful mammals on a whale watching cruise.
Other sea life often seen from the cruise includes: other whales, dolphins, sea birds and occasionally great white sharks.
Today is the day for the truly adventurous, as we will cage dive with great white sharks! This is an amazing experience not to be missed, and even if you are unsure if you want to be in the water with these magnificent beasts you can enjoy the show whilst staying safe and dry on the boat.
The afternoon is spent on another ecology or whale cruise, making the most of our final days on the coast.
In the unlikely event that conditions made it unsafe for the great white shark cage dive on day 5 we will enjoy the cage diving today instead. If the dive went ahead on day 5 we will head off in the morning towards the world famous wine regions of the Cape, touring from one vineyard to another until the end of the day. We may even be able to find a brandy distillery to explore...
Today is all about the beautiful vineyards of the different Cape regions, and the relaxed atmosphere coupled with stunning views will make today enjoyable even to those who are not big wine drinkers.
After a day soaking up the elegance of the beautiful wine routes we will spend our last evening together dining at a lovely vineyard restaurant, counting the stars in the sky and wishing that we never had to leave.
After a relaxed breakfast we will head back to Cape Town airport, arriving at approximately 11am.
Whether you are travelling with your partner or on your own, you can make new friends and enjoy this shared, life enhancing experience. Prices per person will depend on size of the group, so find out more details from kathy@surfandturfsafaris.com
