Food with Hungarian Attitude
Hungarian cuisine is a prominent feature of Hungarian culture, with traditional dishes such as goulash a favorite dish for cold winter nights. It is flavoured with paprika- a Magyar innovation. Goulash is, contrary to popular belief, not a stew but an artistically prepared thick soup and sour cream is often added to soften the rich flavour. It is a meal in itself. We have chosen this iconic dish as it conjours up the log fires, sleigh rides in the snow and cold winter nights.
The easy to make starter also shows the dependence on winter vegetables that are easily stored and supplement the hard peasant life. The delicious combination of beetroot and carrots with herbs is complimented by the balsamic vinegar and will be a surprise to the palate. Its simplicity makes it an ideal starter.
Hungarians love their sweets and these pancakes will gladden the eye and also give a taste of the rich nuts and flavours of Eastern Europe.
