Wine Society Tastings and Events
With the longest standing wine drinkers' co-operative
Paul Trelford:
Wine is best sampled, discussed and enjoyed in the company of like-minded people, and since The Wine Society’s early days members have enjoyed getting together to learn more about wine or simply to enjoy it, often with food and music.
The full-time Tastings team takes The Society to members all around the country, and now holds over a hundred events per year. While many of these take place in the South East, where the highest concentration of members is located, much of the tastings year is spent outside London, wherever there are enough members to make for a good evening. Guests are welcome too. Normally, at least 15 wines are available for tasting.
From gastronomic dinners to more informal get togethers
Society events take several forms, ranging from informal, walk-around affairs to tutored tastings, gastronomic dinners, musical evenings, Saturday wine workshops, and monthly open days at The Society’s headquarters in Stevenage. They provide an excellent opportunity for members to meet staff, and to discuss various aspects of The Society’s operation in person, over a glass of wine.
The Wine Society is the longest-standing flourishing wine-drinkers’ co-operative in the world. Founded in 1874, it is owned solely by its members, sells only to them and exists purely for their benefit. Member satisfaction is paramount; maximising profit is not.
