Most people over 50 are concerned about their wellness. Many face common challenges such as supporting their offspring or their elderly parents.

Are you worried that you have little control of your aging? Aches and pains do not have to be the norm as we age - because, you can change that.

As you probably know, exercise is very important for living a healthier and longer life. Before you turned 50 years old, you might have thought that it was OK not to take care of your body by having a few too many drinks, or have too many take-aways. Sadly, that life style does not support longevity and health.

When gravity is starting to show signs on the outside, like your skin is getting looser; your inside has already been going south for some time, which means that your muscles do not support your internal organs as they did in a younger you. Getting away with 'doing nothing' is no longer an option.

The number of people over 65 years old is increasing dramatically and the government is changing the retirement age, wanting us to believe that 80 is the new 65.

Of course we don’t live healthier for longer just by exercising. We need to look at nutrition because as we get older our bodies don’t absorb nutrients as readily as when we were younger. Choose your food carefully. Eat whole food and cut out prefabricated meals. The world’s oldest man Walter Breuning, just turned 114 years old. He takes no medication and says that to live long you have to watch what you eat.

Tip; Keep your meals simple, avoid dairy, refined sugar and wheat, as these are the most common intolerances in the western diet.

Drinking water is not just filling a glass of water and gulping it down. Hydrating throughout the day is a must for everyone. Always have a glass of water near by, even if you keep one glass in every room in the house to remind you, The first part of the body that gets dehydrated is the brain, so if you can’t remember what it is that you need to remember, at least remember to drink water. And then perhaps you will remember what it is that you wanted to remember in the first place.
Tip; Drink often but just in small sips. Mix the water with your saliva before swallowing and avoid eating and drinking at the same time.

If you are thinking that you are not fit enough to exercise, think again. The only way to get more energy is to do more exercises. Start exercising and you will get motivated to do more as movement increases serotonin in your brain and makes you feel much better. Michael Carrick celebrated his 100th birthday and believes that the reason for his longevity is down to a daily three-mile walk.

If you have ever wondered why older people often fall, it is because their thigh muscles are not strong.
Tip; So just sitting down and getting up over and over will strengthen your legs and make you less likely to fall.
