Health is harmony between mind and body. Sickness is when these are dis-harmonious, perhaps a war-zone.
Healing is harmonising the mind with the body. The modern version of Decartes’ mechanistic medical model is the computer system. Our body is our hardware, which has self-healing properties built in. Our mind is our software, which is programmed by our conditioning from our parents, particularly in the womb, and early years. If we are sick, it is all in the mind, due to dis-functional programming.
Our soul or higher self is our operator, which is very shy, because it is vulnerable, so tends to leave the running of our lives to the mind, on autopilot. Spirit (the life force of consciousness) is the internet.
Meditation gives our soul (operator) a brief chance to run our lives. We let our mind go on holiday, which allows our body to relax. In the altered state of consciousness of meditation we can get revelations, when the ‘penny drops’. This is like a download of updated software, which changes our attitude. This in turn changes our behaviour to more functional and harmonious, so is healing.
I have founded the Social Enterprise Complementary Therapy Company (SECTCo see www.sectco.org) to provide National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommended complementary therapies on the NHS, as ‘Any Willing Provider.’ It provides the Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) 8 week course in Brighton and Hove for patients on GP referral, and sick public sector staff on Occupational Health referral, free at the point of use.
The government’s health reforms make possible the mass-production of the MBCT course, resulting in the halving of the public health statistics by 2016. See our website for papers on how this could be achieved.
