Halve the chance of catching a cold
“Echinacea has a benefit in reducing the incidence and duration of the common cold” Lancet Infectious Diseases
This summer the prestigious Lancet Infectious Diseases journal published research concluding that Echinacea can more than halve the risk of catching a common cold. This is the conclusion drawn by researchers from the School of Pharmacy at the University of Connecticut, who looked at 14 different studies on Echinacea. Overall, Echinacea was shown to decrease the odds of developing a cold by 58% and reduce the duration of colds by a day-and-a-half in people who were infected. The research puts paid to the recent wave of negative comments about the herb’s effectiveness.
Echinacea reduced the likelihood of participants catching a cold naturally (ie in normal circumstances such as working with someone who has a cold) by 65%, and even where participants were inoculated directly with a rhinovirus, Echinacea reduced cold incidence by 35%.
The authors noted that more work was needed on the quality of the Echinacea products used. Bioforce would agree that quality issues might explain why some Echinacea trials show disappointing results. A previous American investigation into Echinacea preparations found that 10% of those taken from health stores contained no measurable Echinacea.
Echinacea Purpurea proven most effective
A.Vogel Echinaforce is the original and best Echinacea product available, first introduced over 50 years ago by Alfred Vogel, the founder of Bioforce. Bioforce has been investing in research into Echinacea’s ability to strengthen the immune system for many years and data has always been positive. Research conducted by Bioforce includes an investigation into Echinacea’s mode of action, a meta-analysis of Echinacea’s role in the prevention of colds, and research demonstrating that Echinacea purpurea has the greatest immuno-modulating activity.
Why choose Echinaforce?
There are so many different Echinacea products in the shops. Which ones work? It makes sense to look for those features that have been shown to be clinically effective:
- Fresh not dried
A.Vogel Echinacea is harvested early in the morning when the active substances are at their peak and processed immediately. Drying Echinacea causes the loss of important alkylamides, which contribute greatly towards the effectiveness of the remedy.
- Extraction method
A.Vogel Echinacea is extracted in alcohol and water, ensuring as near a copy as possible of what is in the original plant.
- The whole plant
Both the aerial part of the herb and root contain important constituents that contribute synergistically to the overall effect. Both must be used to maximise its effect.
As a further testimony to its efficacy, A.Vogel Echinaforce is licensed for the symptomatic relief of colds, influenza type infections and similar upper respiratory tract infections.
A.Vogel Echinacea products are available from health stores and some pharmacies. A. Vogel Echinaforce guide price £8.49 for 50ml / £14.39 100ml.
Echinacea tincture tablets guide price £8.49 - 120 tablets.
