I am a typical Aries!

If I had to choose one word that used describe me it would have been 'show-off'! Now I am a retired show off but a show off just the same! When I was working in the exhibition business I had some T-shirts printed with "I am an Exhibitionist!" They sold like hot cakes. Just wish I still had one to wear when I give my talks.

I am one of those strange people that really enjoy public speaking and the bigger the audience the better.  I can see why people get hooked on performing as it is great when you can make them laugh.

I have been speaking to different groups around London, including the WI in Bexley, Fish/Age UK in Barnes and All Souls Community Centre  in London.

My subject is "Retirement - What a Bore!" and the three point plan that I put together after I left a busy and manic job as Exhibition Co-Ordinator for Earls Court and Olympia:

1. Write a Book

Friends had always enjoyed the stories about the eccentric half of my family and had told me to write them down.

I created Oh My Giddy Aunt!

2. Create an Online Magazine

I was fed up with the magazines aimed at the 50 plus market because they concentrated on the negatives of getting older.  I realised that my friends were starting new businesses, travelling around the world and had such a positive outlook on life. was born. I now edit and write for it and this has improved my writing skills and enabled me to branch out and offer my work for sale.

3. Teach Children to Read

Having been upset by the statistics that showed that up to 17% of our kids were leaving school semi-illiterate, I decided to do something in my own small way.

I applied to my local primary school as a volunteer to help children to read.  This was the best decision I ever made as it has provided material for my writing and my Facebook and Twitter pages.

Retirement - What retirement?

I am now busier than ever and enjoying learning new skills like social media marketing etc.

I realised that most people plan for retirement with regard to where they are going to live, their financial future and whether they were going to downsize, but few plan what to do with their time.

I now don't know how I ever had the time to go to work and being an extrovert has helped me to speak to others so that they can create an exciting future for themselves.
