If you are over 50 and living the good life then you most probably are according to the Daily Telegraph.
"Mature, Affluent, Pioneering People" stands for the new acronym that I am very willing to acknowledge and embrace.
Active, fun-loving fifty or sixty-somethings are the newest expanding social group who are tackling new projects and travelling to exotic far flung places. They are using technology and shopping on line and have open minds that enable them to learn the new skills required in this decade.
Look around at the people in this group - Sir Mick Jagger, Susan Sarandon, Dame Helen Mirren, Sir David Attenborough and Sir Elton John (to name but a few) - all still creating and living life to the full. We should all use them as roll models to help us live our lives to the full
The over 50s are said to be the happiest and most contented age group and speaking for myself I can heartily agree with all these things.
I have loved getting older, except for the laughter lines that seem to have appeared, as it removes the worry about what other people have to say about me. That is their problem and I have managed to learn to live in the present and not go down the "if only" or "what if" path. What freedom that has given me to overcome life's problems.
I have set up new career paths since retirement from full time employment and enjoy my life now that I am doing what I want to do rather than what I am expected to do.
Editing this magazine was one of the new ventures and helping in my local primary school has been another project that has given me great joy and satisfaction.
Who wants to be a Yuppie or Dinky - I love the fact that I am a Mappie and will continue to be one for a very long time!!
